long ago, in japan: two men study the same art. one of them keeps a pet rat. remember the rat.

the scratching: during an ugly disagreement, the rat scratches the other man across the face. he takes it badly. he wears a metal mask about it for the rest of his life.

the 1980s, new york: the masked man builds an army out of runaway kids. the pitch: a secret warehouse full of stolen televisions, arcade cabinets, skate ramps, and belonging. the kids steal for him. it works better than it should.

the flaw: give kids an arcade and they get loyal to the arcade, not to you. several large reptiles exploit this. the army collapses. the kids keep the warehouse.
